What’s happening locally
Parentalk Tour Event – Parenting under 12’s – a survival guide
During this event, we’ll look at key issues such as communication with our children, setting boundaries, helping them grow in independence while keeping them safe and, above all, building strong bonds with them that will help us weather those teenage storms. We’ll share practical tips that you can take away and put into action at home straightaway. It certainly won’t be dull – there will be lots of humour and you may even shed a tear or two. The aim of this event is to have you leaving inspired and empowered as a mum or dad.

The HANDSS group re-launch event
Helping Additional Needs Develop Social Skills – Tuesday 12 May – Bridge of Don Community Centre Tel 01224 706110
The HANDSS group is a club for children aged five to 15 years, who receive support for learning, or have additional support needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. A wide variety of sports, activities and games, arts and crafts are on offer in a safe, friendly environment. Parents stay at HANDSS, giving the chance for a catch up, to share tips and have a cuppa. Siblings are welcome to attend. Weekly sessions run during term time, on Tuesdays from 6.15pm- 7.30pm at Bridge of Don Community Centre (£2 per child).
HANDSS also runs trips and activities around the city and shire- for example beach barbeques, bus trips to see the Christmas lights. HANDSS is a group run by parents, so weekly activities and the trips can be tailored to suit the interests and needs of the children who attend.

Parents’ leaflet explains new Education Bill
The Education (Scotland) Bill has been introduced to the Scottish Parliament. It contains provisions on: closing the attainment gap; additional support for learning and children’s rights; the right to request Gaelic medium primary provision; and other topics, such as ensuring that councils have a Chief Education Officer in post.
