Green Room Learning Leaflet

Information for Parents

Term 4 April-July 2015

I hope you all had a great Easter break. This term we have lots to look forward to and a lot of learning to do!

Numeracy

This term we will be focusing on time and money. We will be revising o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to on an analogue clock. We will be learning how to read five and one minute intervals past and to the hour in both analogue and digital formats. We will be learning how to solve problems relating to time and exploring timetables and how to read them. We will also continue to build on the work we did last term in learning a number of times tables, so please continue to practice these with your child at home whenever possible.

Literacy

Literacy homework will take the same format as last term.

Reading

Pupils will read their ‘Guided’ reading book in class then bring their ‘Rocket Reader home. Please ensure you hear their reading during the week and sign their reading record, commenting where appropriate.

Spelling

Pupils will continue to get spelling words on a Monday and write them in their homework books. This term I would ask that they continue to use each of their words in a sentence. Please encourage your child to challenge themselves by using interesting vocabulary and more extended sentences where possible. In addition to this, the pupils will be expected to take each of their words and present them in either:

     Pyramid writing

     Bubble writing

     Rainbow writing

The pupils are familiar with all of these spelling strategies as we explored them all last term in the Green Room. It would be great to see them using a different strategy each week. Bonus DOJO points will be awarded for a high standard of homework J

Health and Wellbeing

Pupils in the Green Room will continue to take part in PE with pupils from the blue room, on a Monday afternoon. Please make sure your child brings in their PE kit on a Monday.

IDL

Our topic this term is ‘Green Room Get Set for Summer!’ Some of the questions we hope to answer are:

What are the five main food groups?

     What are nutrients?

Why do we need nutrients to keep us healthy?

How can we prepare healthy meals?

How can we improve on our fitness?

Other News

We have started using ‘Spelling City’ in the Green Room as a tool for practicing spelling words containing different sounds. It would be great for the pupils to access this at home if you have access to the internet.

If you have any queries about this term, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
