Primary 4P Learning Leaflet
Term 3 January – April 2015
Numeracy
P4P are continuing to work in groups in maths this term. Circles are working on addition with three digit numbers. Squares are working on addition with two digit numbers. Both groups will also be moving onto subtraction in this term. The triangles have started a new topic in maths this term learning about money, practising their addition skills. P4P will also be learning to develop data handling skills with Miss Hawthorn on a Tuesday.
Literacy
Children in P4P will continue to practise their spelling on a daily basis, carrying out a different activity each day. Reading and spelling will form the majority of the children’s homework. Children will receive a new book for homework every Monday. They will read half the book in class, then should finish the book at home by Thursday. I will listen to the children read the final part of the book on Thursday, therefore it is vitally important children bring their reading book back to school on this day. Please ensure children’s reading records are also returned along with their book. P4P are going to start reading a novel in class every Wednesday. P4P will work co-operatively to develop their reading skills by asking and answering questions about what they have read.
Health and Wellbeing
This term P4P will be focusing on their bodies and how to keep healthy. We are focusing on foods which are good for you, therefore it would be great if you could encourage your child to bring in a healthy snack to eat at break time. Every Monday P4P have P.E. with Mr Harclow, a specialist P.E. teacher. Gymnastics has been the focus of P.E and children seem to be enjoying it very much.P4P also have P.E. every Friday. Please can you ensure your child has their kit in school on these days to take part. A P.E. kit includes shorts/ joggers, change of t-shirt and indoor shoes.
IDL
Our topic this term for P4P is ‘The Vikings’. Children will be learning what life was like during this time, getting the opportunity to use books and the internet on various technologies to research about the Vikings.
Other News
Homework will continue to be issued on a Monday and collected in on a Thursday. Occasionally, children will have maths homework as well as their spelling and reading. Please encourage children to complete their homework and bring it back to school on time.
P4P are continuing to make great progress with their learning and continue to produce super work. I look forward to finding out what we manage to achieve in term 3!
