Green Room Learning Leaflet
Information for Parents
January – March 2016
This term everyone will be working hard on addition, subtraction and multiplication. The children will be working with numbers up to 1000, including ordering and comparing numbers. We will also be looking at Shape and Measurement.
All children will be taking part in daily phonics and spelling practise to increase their independence and confidence in all literacy tasks. In writing they will be encouraged to sound out words they are unsure of and we will be working on using adjectives to add more detail to our writing.
In reading there will be a focus on increasing fluency when reading aloud and we will be developing our understanding of what we have read using a variety of reading activities and strategies.
Health and Wellbeing
In the Green Room we will be encouraging the children to be as independent as possible with daily tasks and homework. This term we will also be focusing on the importance of cooperating with others and showing respect to other pupils and adults within the school. We will also explore and discuss emotions and feelings.
Our topic this term is Roald Dahl. We will be exploring his many books, starting with George’s Marvellous Medicine and Revolting Rhymes. We will use the books as a stimulus for a wide variety of literacy and expressive arts activities.
Homework will be issued each Monday and should be returned by the following Friday.
